Elena Ledda
One of the most interesting and mysterious element in this world is miracle. Many of us believe miracles while many of us doesn't believe them. Maybe we contextualize the things we haven't met as miracle until we meet it. Even so, we would like to coincidence with a miracle. When I listened Elena Ledda for the first time, I found her songs miracle-like.
Elena Ledda is an Italian composer. She usually sings traditional Sardinian* folk songs. Actually she was an opera singer but went for an other way. She chose singing Sardinian songs. I think she discovered something we can't see in folk songs. Maybe her root pull her into that genre of music.
Elena Ledda is also a special name. As you know, Helen was daughter of Leda and Zeus in Greek mythology. I don't know whether it is her real name or not but seems it is not her real name.
Elena has many different songs. She has both joyful folk songs and slow romantic songs. Although she has some upbeat musics, her slow songs are more successful in my opinion. The first thing I noticed about her songs is her voice. If you notice, she has a very different voice color. Every tone of her voice carries a piece of love. When I listen to her songs, I don't figure out whether I am in a dream or in real life.
PESA
RAİSE(PESA)
I am a dress for you,
Put your skin on mine.
How much crying you need!
Golden tears don’t make you a king.
Being master of every pleasure
Is the medicine that heals you.
Come into this love just for one night.
Look at your destiny into these eyes of mine.
We are those who walk
And never rest,
Nails of a wind nailed
On your step.
Come into this love just for one night.
Look at your destiny into these eyes of mine.
Sons of Spain, entrails that suck the air of Maghreb.
Beggars, more beautiful than fairies, at your gate.
Raise a song for me,
Move your step on mine.
Sing, your hips are painting
Sounds and colours
With your hands and feet.
Thrills that don’t miss anything,
My senses are running unbridled.
Raise, my heart, and don’t stop, hey!
Play music, because this time never passes.
Because the desire is son,
It arises from your lips
And we are the gorgeous sound,
Masters of music.
On the wagons there are sheets,
Smells of Asturias,
Hairs dyed with henna
And African eyes.
Sons of Spain, entrails that suck the air of Maghreb.
Beggars, more beautiful than fairies, at your gate.
The night comes in the darkness
The star is shining like us
Hold me in your hand, it will soon
Morning and love will run away.
SA LUGHE
NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN
NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN
A shining blade
Falls from my hand.
Crescent moon:
Your hair is scythed wheat
And in the harvest
I am every grain.
Which is the right thing,
Where does it spring from, for me?
What are
Those lips saying?
What are they saying?
We are one thing
And our blood is new:
Being born together
With my blood, with yours.
You are only mine now
Nobody will take you away anymore
I can bind
My shadow to yours.
What are
Those lips saying?
What are they saying?
So, this kiss
Won’t leave you.
Prisoner of its eyes,
The beauty can’t escape.
Come here in the night,
You are clearer than ever
Now that the night falls
Without sun or day
What are
Those lips saying?
What are they saying?

I hope you like these Sardinian songs. By the way, isn't the language cute? It sounds like a lullaby. See you next time!
